Setelah sekian lama, vakum dari dunia blogging, alhamdulillah ada sedikit kesempatan untuk kembali menghias blog ini agar tidak lama-kelamaan hilang. Total sudah banyak tulisan dari berbagai macam topik yang saya buat disini. Namun, rata-rata memang bukan mengarah ke aspek akademis, namun kali ini ingin rasanya mempublish hasil karya saya.

Mudah-mudahan memang diberi kelancaran dari awal sampai akhir.

 

COUPLING OF MICROFLUIDIC PROCESS AND MICROFILTRATION TO IMPROVE THE SEPARATION PROCESS OF PARTICLES 

            Microfiltration has been applied in many domain of engineering. In the environmental engineering, microfiltration is used in desalination and purification of wastewater from biologic particles. In the biotechnology area, separation of the particles applied for clarifying the fermentation media and membrane bioreactor. For health and medical purpose, it could be applied in clinical diagnosis, as if blood cleansing and sensor implant. The importance of separation process is focused to separate the dispersed particles from the suspension that deals with complexity of the fluid and the heterogeneity of the particle itself. These two phenomena that caused the microfiltration become very limited in their application. In conclusion, the experimental studies to determine in how the particles moving provide great contribution encountered this problem. From this point of view, the conditions of flow in which particle dispersed become the subject of investigation. This study involved microfluidic application.

Fundamental advances in the development of the microfluidic process in cell and particle handling have proven to be very successful in the recent years. The knowledge in this field has helped us to understanding the nature of particles movement in the continuous stream under the influence of the other factor. Along with it, the application of this technology in the domain of separation showed progress quite rapidly. Since, microfluidic process deals with the behavior of the small particles moving in continuous stream, the use of microfiltration to improve the separation process could be advantageous. The migration of the particles traverse laterally in the continuous stream, producing the tubular pinch effect, has led to numerous interests in the field of the microfluidic process. The microfocalisation of the particles to reach its equilibrium position near the wall has been identified as a result of the shear stress. This could be advantageous to be applied in the domain of the separation because different particle experienced different shear stress and so the particles will have the different equilibrium positions. However, the shear rate experienced by the particles depends with so many various factor. The purpose of this study then are to determine the nature of particles reach its equilibrium position according under various operating conditions and by these the experimental results, we can use this phenomena to study the separation process in microfiltration. 

Tambahan :

Proyek ini memiliki masa depan yang cukup menjanjikan. Banyak peneliti dari berbagai belahan dunia, seperti Korea dan Amerika, yang juga mengerjakan proyek yang sejenis untuk menjelaskan fenomena perpindahan partikel secara lateral. Namun, penelitian tersebut masih jauh daripada goal yang ingin dicapai. Misalkan, dalam proses yang sesungguhnya, kita akan berhadapan dengan sebuah suspensi partikel, tentu saja, fenomena pergerakan partikel dalam suspensi akan sangat berbeda dengan partikel dengan fraksi volume yang rendah.

Banyak cara juga yang dikembangkan untuk mempengaruhi pergerakan partikel, seperti menggunakan tube spiral, untuk memberikan kontribusi pada gaya drag dan juga electric field untuk memberikan gaya elektroforesis. Jalan penelitian masih panjang. Fenomena hidrodinamik, merupakan sebuah fenomena yang cukup menarik, karena seperti halnya turbulensi. Semua nampak tak beraturan, dalam kondisi keadaan chaos, namun secara statistical semuanya berjalan secara teratur.  

Mungkin begitupun juga dalam hidup, kadang kita tak pernah menyangka bagaimana nasib kita kelak, segalanya terkesan tak terduga dan penuh dengan rintangan yang berliku-liku. Namun, segalanya telah diatur dalam suatu semesta kompleks. Tiap sesuatu akan berjalan sesuai dengan arah yang ditetapkan. Belajar tentang alam, tak akan pernah lepas daripada kehidupan. Alam merupakan sebuah contoh untuk berusaha mengerti tentang arti kehidupan.
